BASE participants were asked about their economic situation in the EE (Intake Assessment) at each time of measurement as well as in the IP (Intensive Protocol). The section on economic status focused on the level and composition of participants' income in old age, the possession of assets, and the entitlement to state support. The income was calculated as net income per capita (personal income), per household (household income) and weighted by the number of household members (equivalent income). Equivalent income was calculated on the basis of the equivalence scale proposed by Hauser and Stubig (1985). Assets included, for example, property, savings, securities and life insurance. State support refers primarily to welfare payments.
